The Mindful Place and Get In Your Kitchen are partnering together to create a holistic Long Island mindfulness retreat experience complete with gourmet food and evidence-based mindfulness meditation practices. Whether you are looking to get away for an entire weekend or just for a day, we invite you to join us in our mindfulness journey, led by James D’Aconti, LCSW, who specializes in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction.

Mindfulness retreat activities include mindfulness sessions, yoga, mindful walking, and mindful eating. The retreat will be held over a weekend.  Check in will be 6:30 pm on Friday and dinner will be served at 7:00 pm.  The retreat will end at 3:00 pm on Sunday. The mindfulness retreat is hosted at Camp Alvernia, which features 15 wooded waterfront acres. With beautiful views of Centerport Harbor, this scenic campground is only minutes away from the Vanderbilt Museum and Planetarium in Centerport. A county park is located across the street with walking trails through the woods. Given the time of year and the waterfront, we advise you to bring multiple layers, comfortable clothing, walking shoes or boots, and bug spray.


Dining and Meditation Room

All meals take place in the dining hall. This communal space also hosts our meditation and yoga sessions. We provide yoga mats and meditation cushions to each attendee. However, if you have your own yoga equipment, please feel free to bring it.


All meals are cooked and prepared on premises by Tom Canale, gourmet chef and founder of Get in Your Kitchen. All ingredients are Non-GMO, organic (when available), and ethically sourced. Menus feature a variety of dishes that appeal to all tastes and dietary needs. Vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, and dairy-free options are available. Lodging and Facilities

Overnight arrangements are available in heated communal sleeping halls. Twin size bunkbeds are provided to each guest. Members are required to bring their own set of sheets and towel for the weekend. You also have the option to join us for the full weekend retreat but commute home at night to sleep in your own bed. Single stall showers are available in each of the bathrooms. Hand soap and toilet paper will be provided.
